هذا كتاب يقدم نفسه بنفسه، بعنوانه: وديباجته، ثم بنظامه الذي سار عليه مؤلفه. فالعنوان: "إعانة المتوجه المسكين إلى طريق الفتح والتمكين" يشير بوضوح إلى أنه وضع في الأساس مرشداً للمبتدئين في سلوك الطريق الصوفي، ومعيناً للمريدين في السير خطوة خطوة نحو الغاية السامية التي ينشدون، بالتدرج في مراحل الطريق الذي يبدأ بتنقية القلب من الشوائب، وينتهي بمرحلة التحقق الكامل في بساط التجلي المعرفي الرباني.
وعليه، يقسم زرَوق مؤلفه إلى مواقف ثلاثة، يختص الموقف الأول منها بتحقيق التوبة، وهو أول مراحل الطريق. ثم يخصص الموقف الثاني لموضوع الإستقامة، أما الموقف الثالث فهو موقف التحقيق والعرفان والترقي في مقامات الإحسان.
