لإن الشعر هو دائماً ابن الحياة، والحياة لا تعاش بغير حب، وخاصة لدى الشعراء بنى زاهي وهبي عمارته الشعرية على ثيمة الحب، فجاء ديوانه "في مهب النساء" لوحة فسيفسائية غاية في الإتقان والرهافة من حيث توزع الألوان والظلال.
هي قصائد تنبض بالحياة، تبحث عن الحب، عن الوطن، وعن براءة الأطفال. موضوعات كثيراً ما جسدها زاهي في أعماله الشعرية الرائعة مع كل إصدار جديد.
تحت عنوان (حبيبتي)يقول الشاعر: "حبيبتي وأنا/ بنت وصبيَ/ على خدها قبلة/ يدها في يدي/ مثل كفها أحلامنا صغيرة/ أن تصير لنا خزانة/ نعلق فيها ثيابنا/ ننام متعانقين/ وحين تقبلني/ تعود الخزانة شجرة".
من عناوين القصائد نذكر: حكاية الرجل المغناج، جياد الشهوة، دوختي العارمة، نواحي خصرك، عتمة، سر، رجفة، غياب، ملاذ، ليلة عيد... إلخ.
