"تاريخ المدينة" مؤلف هام كشف عن مخطوطة في معهد احياء المخطوطات العربية وفيه يكشف المؤلف عما كان مستتراً وغائباً من تاريخ المدينة المنورة بالنسبة لقاطنيها منذ بداياتها. ويؤرخ لما كانت عليه بعد هجرة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وما آلت إليه.
وقد ضم الكتاب تسعة فصول كانت على التوالي: من أول من سكن المدينة حيث ذكر سكن اليهود الحجاز.. ونزول الأوس والخزرج بالمدينة وقتل اليهود واستيلاء الأوس والخزرج على المدينة. الفصل الثاني في ذكر فتح المدينة وذكر هجرة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم. الفصل الثالث: في ما جاء في حرمة المدكينة وغبارها وثمرها ودعائه صلى الله عليه وسلم لها البركة وما يؤول إليه أمرها وحدود حرمها. الفصل الخامس في ذكر اجلاء بني النضير من المدينة وحفر الخندق وقتل بن قريظة. الفصل السادس في ذكر ابتداء بناء مسجد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، الفصل السابع ذكر المساجد التي صلى فيها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، الفصل الثامن في ذكر وفاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ووفاة أبي بكر الصديق وعمر رضي الله عنهما، الفصل التاسع في حكم زيارة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وفضلها.
