يُشكِّل "مُعجَم المُعاقين من الأعلام العرب، سمعيّاً وبصريّاً وحركيّاً، للأستاذ الباحث أحمد العلاونة، مُحاولة رائدة في سد ثغرة في حقل المعاجم العربية المُتخصصة الأحاديّة اللّغة.
يَضُمّ مشاهير المُعاقين في التاريخ العربيّ والإسلاميّ، قُدماء ومُعاصرين، ممن أصابه عمىً أو صممٌ أو عرجٌ أو شللٌ منذ طفولته...
-لم يترجم لمن عمي في آخر عمره كالذهبي والترمذيّ... أو لمن أصابته عاهة في أواخر أيّامه... وإنما اقتصر على ترجمة من أصابته أيّامه... وإنما اقتصر على ترجمة من أصابته عاهة في صغره، أو في منتصف حياته، أو قبل وفاته بخمس عشرةً سنةً... ضمن ترجماته أخباراً طريفة، وأشعاراً لطيفةً، وأقوالاً مستحسنةً...
-لفت النظر إلى أن الدكتور عبد الكريم اليافي قد ميز بين ثلاثة أنواع من المصابين بالإعاقة:
-المَعوق وهو المولود بعاهة.
-المُعاق وهو من أصابته عاهة بعد ولادته.
-المُعوَّق وهو المُصاب بأكثر من عاهة أو عائق.
-رتب المؤلف مشاهير المُعاقين على حُروف المُعجَم، وقد تفاوتت تراجمُهُ طُولاً وقصراً بحسب توافر الموادّ وشهرة المُترجم له... وذيَّل معجمه بفهارس تُسهِّل على القارئ الوُصولَ إلى هدفه بيُسر وسُرْعة.
