يقول الأستاذ الدكتور ناصر أحمد سنة: "من اللافت في السنوات القليلة الماضية أن المشهد الإخباري والإعلامي والعالمي يتشح بوشاح أسود؛ فتكويناته ومفرداته... حروب وقتل، ودماء وأشلاء، وإستنزاف وأطماع، وكوارث وأوجاع، وإرتفاع أسعار، وتقييد أفكار، وأزمات غذائية، وإحتجاجات عمالية، وإنهيارات مالية، وهزات إقتصادية، ووقود حيوي، وتسابق نووي إلخ... أمور تحتم على الإنسان، والمجتمع "الحي"، "ذلك الضاحك... المُضحك" أن يغالبها فيغلبها، ضَحكاً وإضحاكاً، عندها يتفوق عليها، وعندها يحق له بتفوقه هذا أن يصبح صيحة النصر".
هذا من جانب، ومن جانب آخر فإن الإبتسامة أصبحت علماً يدرس وفناً يمارس لتحسين العلاقات الإجتماعية وتنمية الجوانب الإقتصادية والدبلوماسية.
وتم الإعتراف بها كعلم في بداية القرن العشرين وسمي بـ "علم نفس الضحك" فضلاً عن ذلك فقد تم الإعلان عن اليوم العالمي للضحك الذي يوافق يوم الأحد الاول من شهر آيار من كل سنة يضحكون لمدة ثلاث دقائق تحت شعار "الضحك يحقق السلام العالمي".
