إن علم الفرائض علم مهم تعرف به كيفية صرف التركة إلى الوارث بعد معرفته، والحاجة إليه الوصول إلى إيصال كل وارث قدر استحقاقه، وقد ألف في هذا العلم الكتب الكثيرة ومن أشهرها كتاب "الفرائض الرحبية". وقد أقبل العلماء على هذا المؤلف شرحاً ونظماً، فكان له شروح كثيرة أهمها شرح سبط المارديني الذي هو بين يدي القارئ، وقد تم نشره محققاً مما يزيد من أهميته. ومؤلف الرهبة هو أبو عبد الله محمد بن علي بن محمد بن الحسن الرحبي، الفقيه الشافعي المعروف بابن المتقنة. والرهبة نسبة إلى الرهبة بلدة تبعد قليلاً عن دمشق، وللرحبي مصنفات منها "بغية الباحث" أو جوزه في الفرائض" وهو الكتاب موضوع الشرح. وأما الشارح فهو محمد بن أحمد بن محمد البدر الدمشقي الأصل، القاهري الشافعي سبط الجمال المارديني، ولد سنة 826 هـ بالقاهرة فحفظ القرآن وجوّده على إمام الأزهر آنذاك"النور" كما حفظ "النية النحو" وبعض "المنهاج" وغيرها، وأخذ عن ابن المجدي الفرائض والحساب والميقات، ولازم البلاء القلقشندي في الفرائض والفقه، وقد تمييز في الفنون، وأشير إليه بالفضيلة فتصدى الأقدار، وانتفع به في الفرائض والحساب والميقات والعربية ونحوها، له مؤلفات كثيرة وشروح مختلفة، منها "شرح الرهبة في الفرائض" الذي هو شرح لطيف مختص على المقدمة المسماة بالرحبية في علم الفرائض.
