بزيارتها للعراق، صدمت نعومي كلين عندما رأت البضائع الأجنبية، ولوحات إعلانية، إزاء الأخبار اليومية وعناوينها، التي كانت دائماً تقدم مفصلاً لما سيحصل بعد حرب العراق. لكن كل ما قيل آنذاك من قبل الحكومتين الأميركية والإنكليزية، ارتكز كله على مصالح ذاتية، وتعبير عن موقفهم الداعي للسخرية والتهكم (الديمقراطية)، (الحرية) (محارب الإرهاب)؟
كل العداء الكبير الذي أثير، إنما يبرهن على أن اجتياح العراق تم بناء على معطيات غير واقعية وخادعة، لمسح حضارة هذا البلد "بأقصر وقت ممكن". في غضون أيام من احتلال العراق بدأ بحرق جميع ممتلكات البلد الوطنية، كل شيء دبر لسلب إرادة الأجيال القادمة بعقود لمستثمرين أجانب، الذين يؤمنون أن الطمع والجشع شيء جيد.
إن تصرفات طوني بلير وجورج بوش الفظيعة وتظاهرهما بالفضيلة والتباكي لحماية أهل العراق، كان ذلك لتغطية نواياهم الحقيقية. عند رؤية الجروح البالغة التي أصابت بلداً يعاني من الضغوط، وذلك من جراء اتهامات مثيرة للاشمئزاز استخدمت لتنفيذ مآربهم، لا يسع أي قارئ أن ينظر إلى حرب العراق بالمنظار عينه كما في السابق.
إنها حرب الكلاب. لكنها تجعل من أمريكا عظيمة، حيث أن الأقوياء وعديمي القلوب يرتقون إلى القمة، بينما الضعفاء والغير مستعدون، سوف يحترقون كما يحترق الفيول، كي تبقى "لاس فيغاس" مشعشعة طوال الليل.
