اهتم أئمة أهل البيت رضي الله عنهم بمعالجة الجسد كاهتمامهم بمداواة الروح فكانت عنايتهم في صحة الأبدان كعنايتهم في تهذيب النفوس. فكانوا أطباء الروح والجسد يرجع إليهم المسلمون يستوصفونهم لأمراضهم البدنية، والروحية كذلك، وعلى هذا لم يكن هؤلاء الأئمة مبلغي أحكام وأئمة تشريع فحسب، بل اعتنوا بعلم الطب حتى قرنه أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه بعلم الفقه في كلمته الجامعة في تقسيم العلم. قال: "العلوم أربعة: الفقه للأديان والطب للأبدان، والنحو للسان، والنجوم لمعرفة الأزمان".
وفي هذا الكتاب وصفات علاج لكثير من الأمراض جاءت على لسان الأئمة اعتبرها مؤلف الكتاب قواعد عامة في حفظ الصحة واعتدال المزاج، ومنها ما جاء في وجع الرأس، دواء للبلغم، عوذة للصداع، عوذة للشقيقة، عوذة لوجع العين، عوذة لوجع الأذن، عوذة للصمم، للوجع الذي يصيب الفم، الأضراس، وغيرها من رقن وعوذات وأدعية تساعد على الشفاء.
