في هذا العمل تتراكم العلامات الحداثوية في فن القصة الحديث، بكل ما تحمله من مزايا فنية تجسد الفن الروائي الحديث، من هنا فإن المجموعة القصصية (كأس من أجل النساء) للقاص "حاتم حسن" تدخل ضمن الخير الرؤيوي العام في الإلتقاء الفني/ الصياغي بطابع النمط الحديث وهي منهمرة بهموم ومشكلات المجتمع التي تحسدها شخوص القصص القصيرة هذه. فمن خلال العناوين التي اختارها تتضح لنا الدلالات الإيضاحية للمعنى فـ (فاطمة) تلك المرأة الثرية التي تملك ثروة طائلة تتمنى أن ترزق بطفل إلا أن زوجها يرفض ذلك بعد أن يقتنع بأن الحياة معادلة خاسرة (فكر بأن الحياة معادلة طرفها الآخر صفر) وبذلك فقد تأطر النص بالواقعية من خلال المزاوجة بين الرؤية العامة للواقع الإجتماعي وبين الصيغة الفنية الحديثة. وهو بهذا يحاول أن يكسر النمط التقليدي البسيط الذي وقع فيه كتاب القصة في العقدين الأخيرين ففي قصة (الإثنين الأخير) نجد تبيان حالة انتصار بطل القصة (مازن/ آخر سلالة العائلة) من خلال عدم خضوعه للقدر المحتوم للموت الذي أصاب أباه وأخواته إذ مات ابوه محترقاً واستشهد في المعركة والآخرين في حادث مروري فما كان منه إلا أن يعاهد أمه التي انهارت من بؤرة الحدث ويقول (أمي.. يا أمي أنا ابنك الأصغر سأبحث عن الحياة وسأطيع قلبي والقلب ليس غير امرأة.. وها انذا على موعد معها انه موعدي الأول فلا تموتي ويموت اللقاء).
أما في بقية قصصه اللاحقة فإن القاصر يتابع في نفس المعنى وكأنه يريد أن يفهمنا أن الحياة عبارة عن مغامرة على حافة الخطر وإن باستطاعة الإنسان أن ينجو منها إذا كان حذراً...
