يدور موضوع الكتاب حول الفكر السياسي للشهيد "محمد محمد صادق الصدر" (1943-1999)، ومشروعه السياسي وإسهاماته الفكرية والفقهية والإجتماعية والسياسية، وفيه ينطلق المؤلف (أمجد الهذال) من فرضية مفادها: "إن الصدر الثاني امتلك فكرا سياسيا، وإن كانت مؤلفاته لم تكن مباشرة في هذا الصدد، لأوضاع معينة، إلا أن هذا لم يمنع من القول، إن نتاجاته الفكرية احتوت على بعض طروحات المميزة في الفكر السياسي الإسلامي".
وفي طريقه للبرهان على تلك الفرضية قسم المؤلف دراسته إلى مقدمة وأربعة فصول وخاتمة. تناول الفصل الأول السيرة الذاتية والعلمية لمحمد محمد صادق الصدر، واهتم الفصل الثاني بدراسة أبرز الطروحات الغربية في فكر الصدر مثل: المراكسية، ومفهوم الحرية، والإستعمار والميكافيللية. في حين درس المؤلف في الفصل الثالث المجتمع والسلطة والدولة في فكر الصدر، واختص الفصل الرابع بدراسة السلوك السياسي للصدر ومستقبل السلوك السياسي للتيار الصدري. وختم بخلاصة واستنتاجات.
