لقد تطور مجال الإتصال السياسي بشكل كبير مع تطور التكنلوجيا، وأصبح تأثيره على المجتمع بشكل كبير لإهتمام المجتمع بالجانب السياسي ولتعلق السياسة بكافة جوانب الحياة، وهذا ما جعل الأحزاب السياسية والتنظيمات الاخرى تهتم به، ولم تعد السلطة هي المؤثر الوحيد في المجتمع بل أن الرأي العام أصبح سلطة أعلى من سلطة الحكومة أصبح بإمكانه تغيير القوانين وتغير إتجاهات الحكومة بل وحتى الإطاحة بها، لكن هذه القوة من دون "الإتصال السياسي" لا تستطيع التأثير، فالدور الذي يقوم به الإتصال ومن ثم التطور الرأي العام الحديث الذي استخدم وسائل الإتصال الحديثة، فإنه أصبح أقوى تأثيراً وأكبر تطوراً وذلك من خلال الإعلام، وهذا ما جعل الحكومات تركز على الإهتمام بالإتصال السياسي، فلا يمكن تصور وجود عمل سياسي، دون الإتصال، فإنه يقوم بنقل أصوات الرأي العام ومطالبهم (مدخلات)، ونقل دور السلطة وإنجازاتها وعرض أعمالها (مخرجات).
