لا ريب أن علم التوحيد هو أشرف العلوم والعالم به هو أفضل العلماء. وقد اختلف الناس فيه فخلطوا في منهجية الاستدلال على وجوده تعالى، فإنه لما كان (ليس كمثله شيء) لا يصح الاستدلال عليه بالحواس والتجربة، بل يكون الطريق إلى اتباعه إنما الفطرة وهي أمر يتفاوت الناس فيه، فبين من تكفيه، بل هو بحاجة إلى مؤدنة زائدة عليها كالاستدلال عليه تعالى عن طريق العقل، وهو الطريق الصحيح في الاستدلال، أدبه يسد باب اللجاج والاحتجاج. لا يصح أيضاً الاستدلال بالطريق العلمي الذي من أدواته التجربة، لكون التجربة تثبت المحسوس، وليس هو تعالى من جنس المحسوس، فهذا الأمر يتعلق بالقلب وبالعقيدة نقد تشتبه الحواس فيرد العقل خطأها. في هذا الإطار تأتي في سلسلة المحاضرات التي ضمها هذا الكتاب والتي ألقاها الشيخ الشهيد مرتضى المطهري في المجمع الإسلامي للأطباء في إيران. وقد استهل الكتاب كمقدمة دارت حول بحث التوحيد وعن المنهجية المطلوبة في البحث حول هذا الموضوع.
