يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن النظام السياسي لمذهب أهل البيت عليهم السلام في محاولة لقراءة البنى العقائدية في منهاج أهل البيت، وذلك بالنظر إلى الإمامة كنظام سياسي – إجتماعي، أكثر من التركيز على صفات الإمام ببعده الفردي، لأن هذا البعد أحد النظم المرتسمة في هيكلية الإمامة. وقد استند مؤلفو الكتاب في هذا البعد إلى قوله تعالى: "إني جاعل في الأرض خليفة، قالوا أتجعل فيها من يفسد فيها ويسفك الدماء" فأسير في أبرز تعريف لها – والكلام للأستاذ محمد السند – لخلافة التصرف والتدبير في النظام البشري الأرضي إلى حيلولة تدبير الإمامة من وقوع الفساد الأكثري وسفك الدماء المستأصل لغالبية وجود النسل البشري.
من هنا ينظر مؤلفو الكتاب إلى الإمامة في نظام الدولة من خلال النصوص الشرعية حول دور أئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام ودور المهدي في الغيبة الكبرى الذي هو برأيهم "إمتداد لدور الأنبياء والرسل في ضمن حلقات لسلسلة واحدة، وكذلك على قراءة النصوص الشرعية حول دور الفقهاء في عصر الغيبة الكبرى، والدور الذي مارسوه".
وبكلام آخر هذا الكتاب بجزئيه الأول والثاني محاولة لقراءة أسس النظام السياسي الذي ترسمها الإمامية في عصر غيبة الخفاء والسرية لحركة الإمام المهدي.
