تعتمد إسرائيل في حروبها على المعرفة الشاملة بنشاطات أعدائها أكثر مما تعتمد على المدافع والطائرات والآلة الحربية وقد أدرك القادة الصهاينة منذ البدء ضرورة الحفاظ على استخبارات قوية فعالة. وقد عمل ديفيد بن غرويون على إنشاء مصلحة الاستخبارات الإسرائيلية وجعل لها خمسة فروع، هي "ش.ب، علياه بيت، أمان، الموساد، ومؤسسة الاستخبارات والمهام الخاصة". وقد أنيطت بهذا الجهاز مهمات خاصة في مختلف الأماكن من العالم.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم مؤلفوه معلومات هامة عن طبيعة هذا الجهاز ونشأته وأهم الأنشطة التي قام بها منذ نشأته، مثل اختطاف الزعيم النازي إيخمان، وزرع الجاسوس الإسرائيلي إيلي كوهين، ويكشف عن الخطط الدقيقة التي وضعت لتحقيق هذه الأهداف والغايات.
يعتبر هذا الكتاب أول كتاب من نوعه يتحدث عن العمل السري الإسرائيلي من البداية، أي قبل سنة 1948، وما بعدها وهو بمثابة وثيقة هامة لدراسة العقلية الإسرائيلية وتفكيرها.
ونحن إذ نقدم للقراء العرب هذه الترجمة الأمنية، فإننا نفعل ذلك من خلال واجبنا القومي لتوعية المواطنين العرب وتزويدهم بالمعلومات والوثائق، لمواجهة التحدي الإعلامي الصهيوني، كما أننا في الوقت ذاته ننبه إلى أن هذا الكتاب لا يعبر إلا عن وجهة النظر الصهيونية، ولذلك نترك لذكاء القارئ التمييز بين السم والدسم.
