في هذا الكتاب تعريف موجز بكتاب بحار الأنوار للعلامة المجلسي والغرض من تدوين هذا المختصر عرض تعريف موجز يتعرف القارئ فيه على مميّزات الكتاب وقيمته العلمية، ويقف على منهج المؤلف ومتانة أُسلوبه في تأليفه، وذكر هذا المختصر أسماء جماعة من الأعلام الذين استعانوا بالكتاب واعتمدوه ليأخذ القارئ فكرة صحيحة عن الكتاب ويعطي مؤلّفه حقه.
هو العلامة والعلامة المجلسي محمد باقر بن محمد تقي بن مقصود علي المجلسي الإصفهاني، ولد في شهر رمضان المبارك عام 1037 هجرية بأصفهان، وتوفي عام 1110 هجرية، وعاش 73 سنة، كان عالماً بالحديث والتفسير، وفقيهاً متضلّعاً، ومتكلّماً حاذقاً، وبصيراً بالسيرة والتاريخ، وبارعاً في فنون شتّى.
أما كتابه بحار الأنوار هو ثالث المجاميع الثلاثة بعد "الوافي" للفيض الكاشاني و"وسائل الشيعة" للشيخ الحر العاملي، وكان المؤلف رحمه الله قد وقف على منهج أستاذه الفيض الكاشاني في تأليفه "الوافي" الذي جمع فيه أحاديث الكتب الأربعة بتبويب جديد، وزوّده بأبحاث فلسفية وعرفانية لتكون شرحاً لها، كما وقف على منهج معاصره الشيخ الحرّ العاملي في تأليفه "وسائل الشيعة" الذي جمع فيه الأحاديث الفقهية من الكتب الأربعة وبعض الكتب الأخرى، واقتصر فيه على تبويبها من غير بسط وشرح، فعزم على تأليف يفوق هاتين الموسوعتين بالشمول والإختيار والتبويب والشرح والبحث معتمداً على القرآن الكريم والحديث وكلمات الأعلام والبحث والمناقشة لآراءهم.
وكانت الحصيلة تأليف هذه الموسوعة التي فاقت أختيها بأنّها أشملهما موضوعاً، وأوسعهما تبويباً، وأكثرهما حديثاً، وأحسنهما منهجاً، وأعمّهما نفعاً، وأوضحهما شرحاً، وأيسرهما تناولاً.
