... نعتبرُ المتنبي صانعَ ملحمة هو بطلُها وهو شاعرُها، لملاحمُ العالميةُ، تدور حولَ بطلٍ يُجسّد مشاعرَ أمة، بعظّمه الشاعر فيعظمّ به أمته ويتغنّى بأمجادها.
مع المتنبي نرانا في جوّ ملحمي هو صاغه وهو أنشده، في كلّ أمةٍ شعراءُ كبارُ كثيرون، ولكنّ الذين يُجسدون مشاعرَ أمتهم قليلون، يبدو لنا المتنبي الشاعر العربي الوحيد الذي اتحد وجدانه يوجدان أمته، وعاش قضاياها، وجسَّد أمانيها فتمّ الإتحاد بينَ شعوره الذاتي وشعوره القومي.
إنّ هذه الإنطلاقة توضّح لنا الكثير من جوانب حياة الشاعر ونفسيته وفنه.
شعورُ المتنبي العميق بأنه يحملُ هموم أمته ويجسّد أمانيها، وبأنه هو منفذُها خلق في نفسه شعوراً بالتفوق والغربة، تفوّق الثائر على الحياة الإجتماعية، وغربته فيها، وقد لازمه هذا الشعور طيلة حياته.
فمن كان هذا شأنه، لا يستغرب عنه إغفاله لذكر نسبه، فهو ينتسب إلى "العلى" وكل إنتساب سواء إنتقاص له.
