المفاهيمُ هي موضوع هذا الكتاب، من حيث إنها ما يرصده ويحلِّله ويقفُ على إنتقالاته عبر اللُّغات وزوايا الرؤية، ولكنّ الكتاب معني أيضاً بما يتصل بتلك المفاهيم من تحولات ثقافية، تنتجُ أحياناً عن هجرة المفاهيم أو الأفكار، وأحياناً عن عوامل أخرى أوضحها إنتقال العلوم والمعارف وتداولها بين الثقافات.
فمن مناقشة مفاهيم مثل الفلسفة، والنسوية، والعدو، إلى الوقوف على تحولات نتجَت عن ترجمة كُتب مفصلية في تاريخ الحضارات، يتَّضحُ أن الطموح الأساسي هنا هو الطموح ذاته الذي حرّكَ كُتباً سابقة أخرى لي، أي توسيع أمداء المُساءلة لما يكتنف العلاقات الثقافية من إشكالات، منها أن إنتقال المفاهيم والمعارف بصفة عامة ليس بالسهولة أو البراءة التي قد تبدو لبعض من ينظر في هذا الأمر البالغ الأهمية، في عالم يزداد إشتباكاً وسرعة في إنتقال المنتجات الثقافية.
يعملُ سعد البازعي أستاذاً غير متفرغ لآداب اللغة الإنجليزية والمقارنة في جامعة الملك سعود بالرياض، وصدرَ له العديد من المؤلَّفات والترجمات، منها: الإختلاف الثقافي وثقافة الإختلاف، قلق المعرفة، هموم العقل، مواجهات السلطة.
