تتبوأ هذه الموسوعة مكانها الرفيع بين الدراسات اللغوية المقارنة، لأنها وضعت من أجل الكشف عن الأصول اللغوية التي عملت على تكوين لهجة حلب، بل من أجل الكشف عن العلاقة المتبادلة بينها وبين تلك الأصول، ومن جهة أخرى فإن الموسوعة تعد مصدراً ثراً من مصادر التراث الشعبي، لا سيما في هذا العصر الذي وجد فيه بعض الدارسين أن لا تثريب عليهم إذا هم ولوا وجوههم شطر الشعوب يتتبعون لغتها المحكية وأساليب التعبير فيها، ويتحرون تقاليدها ومعتقداتها وأنماط حياتها مما يعين على فُهم شخصيتها الإنسانية وما تحفل به من إمكانات إبداعية متفردة.
ولا جرم أن مدينة حلب جديرة بمثل هذا الإهتمام، فهي المدينة التاريخية الغنية بسكانها وبموارد العيش فيها، كما أنها كانت على مر العصور التاريخية محط القوافل التجارية العابرة شرق البلاد وغربها، وخاناتها الباقية وأسواقها وآثارها آية دالة على ذلك، فاختلط سكانها بالعديد من الشعوب العربية والأجنبية وتم بين هؤلاء وهؤلاء التمازج وظهر التأثر سواء في لغة الحديث أو في طرز العيش، مما يؤكد أن هذه المدينة مع حفاظها على طابعها الخاص لم تتأب على مثل هذا التأثر بل اتسمت شخصيتها باللين والمرونة وعرفت بحسن الجوار وإحترام الغريب.
