وفي هذا الصدد يرى البعض بأن هذا المفهوم يعني لدى المستهلكين بأنه ذا صلة بحماية البيئة أو بمسؤولية الشركة الإجتماعية في مجال الإنتاج أو التسويق، كما يراها البعض على أنها تعبير عن توجه المنظمة غير الهادف للربح في تعاملاتها مع المجتمع والزبائن، فضلاً عن سعيها لتحقيق حماية المستهلك.
