فؤاد جميل (1914 - 19 أكتوبر 1971) أكاديمي ومترجم وباحث عراقي.
من أساتذة جامعة بغداد ومن أعضاء المجمع العلمي العراقي. كان في نشأته من مدرسي اللغة الإنكليزية والتربية وترجم عدة كتب من الإنكليزية. "لازم الشيخ قاسم القيسي ومحمد بهجت الأثري أمداً آخذاً عنهما اللغة العربية وكان من روّاد البحث الفولکلوري، كتب الفصول المهمة المسهبة عن بدو العراق وعاداتهم وتقاليدهم ومأثوراتهم وقصصهم."
حياته وعمله
ولد في العمارة حيث كان أبوه جميل أفندي موظفاً سنة 1914. أتم دراسته الثانوية في بغداد وبعد ذلك انتقل إلى بيروت ودرس في الجامعة الأميركية في فرع اللغة الإنكليزية.
رجع إلى بغداد فعين مدرساً سنة 1934 ثم كان سكرتير للجنة الإذاعية في بداية تأليفها، 1937. نقلت خدماته إلى وزارة التموين بصفة مميز سنة 1945 ثم أعيد إلى التدريس في دار المعلمين الابتدائية عام 1948 والاعدادية المركزية في 1952. أصبح مدير مكافحة الأمية بوزارة المعارف في 1954 فمفتش معارف ثم أستاذ الأدب الإنكليزي في جامعة بغداد. توفي في بغداد في 19 أكتوبر 1917.

قد يكون الطوفان وفكرته أكثر المشاركات الجامعة بين الحضارات والديانات الشرقية فيلحظ أن رواية الطوفان تتغير ملامحها العامة والتفصيلية تبعا لتغير مرجعيات مصادرها المتنوعة وعموما فإنه بالإمكان تقسيم تلك الرواية على فرعين رئيسين، القسم الأول المتعلق بما أنتجته الحضارات الشرقية القديمة كما في المصادر السومرية والبابلية التي اشتركت فيها كثير من العوامل، بخلاف الرواية الدينية في الكتب المقدسة التوراة الإنجيل القرآن، التي يبدو أن فيها جامعا مشتركا على الرغم من تفاصيلها المتنوعة فكتاب الطوفان في المصادر السومرية – البابلية – الآشورية – العبرانية هو محاولة لعقد مقارنة شاملة بين معطيات تلك الرواية المتباينة والمختلفة مرجعيا ورؤيويا.
