لا يخفى أن قوانين الأحوال الشخصية هي المنظم الأساس لحياة الإنسان والأسرة.. ترافق المرء منذ ولادته حتى اجتيازه مرحلة الحضانة وبلوغه سن الرشد, ثم زواجه, لتدخل أيضاً إلى صميم العائلة ومكوناتها وحقوق وواجبات كل من أفرادها, وكيفية انفكاك رباطها, ثم تستمر في مرافقة الإنسان حتى وفاته وتوزيع الأنصبة الإرثية. ومعلوم أن لكل طائفة قانونها الخاص الذي يرعى أحوالها الشخصية إلا أن مجموعة تلك القوانين تقنن في النهاية شؤون المجتمع بكل طوائفه والتي تشكل في المحصلة الوطن بجميع شرائحه وتعددياته.. ومنذ أواخر عام 2003 وحتى الآن صدرت ثلاثة قوانين جديدة للأحوال الشخصية في سورية ولبنان وهي: للسريان الأرثوذكس في سورية ولبنان معاً, للروم الأرثوذكس في سورية, للروم الأرثوذكس في لبنان, فقد غدا ضرورياً نشر تلك القوانين الجديدة مع قانون الأحوال الشخصية للأرمن الأرثوذكس, بالشرح والتعليق- في مجموعة واحدة ليسهل الرجوع إليها.
وإنني إذ أنشر هذه القوانين بنصوصها الأصلية المعتمدة رسمياً، فقد أوردت بالتعليق رأيي الشخصي التفسيري المتواضع على بعض تلك النصوص وهي التي رأيت أنها بحاجة إلى تعليق وتفسير، متوخياً من كل ذلك خدمة العاملين في حقل القانون من محاكم روحية وقضاة ومحامين وطلاب ومؤسسات قانونية، مسترشداً في عملي هذا وخبرتي الطويلة في مهنة المحاماة وفي البحث والتأليف والتي ناهزت ثلاثين عاماً..
