تكمن أهمية دراسة "الإدارة العثمانية في الجزائر من عام 1518 إلى 1830"، في كون لتلك المدة مهمة بالنسبة للتاريخ العثماني بشكل خاص، والتاريخ الإسلامي بشكل عام، لما شهدته من أحداث وتطورات ولا سيما حينما تمكّن الإسبان من إحتلال غرناطة، وإخراج العرب المسلمين من الأندلس، فأثار هذا الحدث ضجة كبيرة في العالم الإسلامي، ليس هذا فحسب، بل إن المناطق العربية في الشمال الأفريقي تعرّضت للخطر الأوروبي الذي سيطر على العديد من موانئه ومدنه.
وقد أثّرت تلك الأحداث على العرب المسلمين سياسياً وإقتصادياً حينما خرجت مناطق مهمة من سيطرة المسلمين، وفقدت الموانئ العربية في الإسكندرية وبلاد الشام أهميتها، تلك الأحداث شجّعت الدولة العثمانية على توجيه أنظارها نحو بلاد المغرب العربي، وإعادة ما فقده المسلمون من مناطق.
فتمكنت من السيطرة على الجزائر التي أوجدت فيها نظاماً إدارياً وإجتماعياً وإقتصادياً يتماشى مع نظامها، على الرغم من أن الحكم العثماني هناك ظلّ اسمياً.
