"يا عقد عقيق أو ياقوت، يا قلب فؤادي يا بيروت، إن كان النأي يباعدني، فبمهد ترابك سوف أموت، بيروت، إذا حمّ العالم، أمسيت به لغماً موقوت، والموت بأرضك إحياء، فترابك يشبعني كالقوت، وإذا ما راقبت فؤادي لرأيت به اسمك منحوت، فبأرضك قد أثمر حبي، يا حبي الأول يا بيروت.
لن تصبح أرضي منسية، لن ترحل عنها الحرية، من قبل الدنيا مولدها، بيروت فيها أزلية، وستبقى في قلب الدنيا، بيروت فيها أبدية، وسترجع للعالم يوماً لتدين الروح القبلية، بيروت أرادوك فداءً لتناحر أهل العصبية، تباً لخسيس خناجرهم، ذبحوك بأيد همجية".
قصائد ممتعة حافلة بما يثلج الصدر من النفحات الحماسية والوجدانية والوطنية، تقرأ بارتياح وانشراح، وتذكرك بأحداث عزيزة مضت وعبرت، بعضها يثير الأشجان، وبعضها يزخر بالآمال. يتمنى المحروم من الموهبة الشعرية أن يكون شاعراً، ولو للحظات، لكي يحظى بنعمة التقليد. أما الشاعر بالفطرة فيغبط مبدع هذه القصائد على ما يملك من جزالة وسلاسة وصدق في التعبير عن أسمى المشاعر.
ولا يسعك، وأنت تستمع بالقراءة، إلا أن تتساءل: كيف يتسنى لطبيب أسنان أن ينطق شعراً؟ هل ينتزع شعره من أفواه الزبائن سراً، دون علمهم؟ وهل أصبحت الأفواه، المفتوح قسراً، مغارة إلهام وإبداع؟ وما علاقة الطب بالشعر؟
ويأتيك الجواب فوراً: إن الشعر فنّ، والفن ليس اختصاصاً، وإنما هو نفحة إلهية تغمر الإنسان دون استئذان، ولا تميز بين مخلوق وآخر بسبب العقيدة أو العرق أو اللون أو المهنة.
