هذا الكتاب محاولة قام بها المؤلف لتقديم فلسفة كل من ابن سينا وابن رشد في الوجود والمعرفة في صورة مبسطة وتحليلية، وقد اقتضى هذا تقسيم الدراسة إلى ستة فصول: يتناول الفصل الأول الذات الإلهية، والأدلة على وجود الله تعالى، ووحدانيته وطبيعة واجب الوجود وصفاته.
وفي الفصل الثاني يناقش نظرية العلم الإلهي، وطبيعة هذا العلم بمعنى فيما إذا كان كلياً أم جزئياً؟ وهل هو علم واحد أم متعدد، وعلاقة علم الله تعالى بالأشياء. أما الفصل الثالث فيعالج قدم العالم وحدوثه، وكيف تصدر الكثرة عن الوحدة، وخصص الفصل الرابع للنفس، حيث قدم عرضاً لرأي كل من ابن سينا وابن رشد في إثبات النفس وتعريفها وقواها، وصلتها بالبدن، وخلودها.
أما الفصل الخامس فينصب على نظرية المعرفة ووسائلها. وينتهي الكتاب في الفصل السادس بعقد مقارنة مجملة لآراء المفكرين قيد الدراسة تتضمن نقاط اللقاء والاختلاف، وهي بمثابة خاتمة.
وبهذا العرض لأفكار رائدين من رواد الفكر الفلسفي الإسلامي، وما يلقيه من ظلال على الفكر الفلسفي الإسلامي بصفة عامة، يوفر الكتاب مادة خصبة تسد بعض حاجة طلبة كليات الفلسفة بصورة خاصة والقارئ العربي بصورة عامة في هذا اللون من الدراسات.
