بين طيات هذا الكتاب (أربعون حديثاً) رواها شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية بسنده إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم رواها عنه جماعة منهم الإمام الذهبي، وهي مذكورة في (مجموع فتاوى شيخ الإسلام أحمد بن تيمية)، رأة المحقق أحمد إبراهيم الحاج أن يخرجها إلى القراء بثوب جديد بعد إعطائها حقها من الدراسة وتخريج الأحاديث عليها حتى يتم النفع بها، وقد عنونها بـ: "أربعون حديثاً لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية" مما لا شك فيه أن هذه الأربعين فيها من الفوائد الشيء الكثير، ولو لم يكن فيها من الفوائد سوى أنها عرفتنا بشيوخ شيخ الإسلام الذين تلقى عنهم العلم لكفت، إن من أهم فوائد هذه الأربعين: بيان كثرة الشيوخ الذين روى عنهم وسمع منهم شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية فقد بلغوا في هذه الأحاديث وحدها ما يقارب الخمسين من شيوخه أو يزيد، وهذا بيان أكيد على أن شيخ الإسلام إنما تلقى علمه عن العلماء الأفاضل. ومن فوائد هذه الأربعين أيضاً بيان اهتمام شيخ الإسلام بالحديث وعلومه، واهتمامه بجمع الحديث وروايته بأسانيده إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم. وليست هذه الأربعون هي مرويات شيخ الإسلام فحسب بل له مرويات أخرى جاءت مفرقة في كتبه.
