إلى أي حد يمكن إعتبار الفكر الإعتزالي فكراً نقديّاً، بالمعنى المتداول لدينا للنقد؟ هل يصلح أن يكون ذلك الفكر القديم أنموذجاً للإقتداء في العصر الحديث؟.
يقدم الكتاب مجموعة قراءات في الفكر الإعتزالي، بدأت بمساهمة الجاحظ في تشييد فكر المعتزلة الكلاميّ، القائم على تصوّر سيميائيّ كلّيّ، ورصد أثر أدلّة الفيلسوف النصراني، يحيى النحوي، على بعض علماء المعتزلة الأوائل.
ثم عرض مقوّمات النظريّة السياسيّة عند المعتزلة، وتحرّكاتهم السياسيّة التي قاموا بها في علاقتهم بأطراف مذهبيّة مختلفة مثل الزيديّة، والخوارج الإباضيّة، وأهل السنّة، كما بحث رأي المعتزلة في مسألة طاعة الحاكم؛ لأنهم عدّوها أقرب إلى مفهوم العقد بين الراعي والرعيّة، وهي مشروطة بعدل الحاكم.
كما بُحثت مسألةُ المفاصلة بيّن أبي بكر وعليّ، وهي مِنْ أكثرِ المسائل إستيعاباً للرّأي والرّأي الآخر.
وعرض الكِتاب آراء نقاد الفكر الإعتزالي، من حيث إنه لم يُجِب بالوضوح الكافي عن مفهوم العقل وتحديده، وفحص دلالاته المحتمّلة.
اتجه بعضُ المفكّرين، المعاصرين، إلى إحياء فكر المعتزلة، تحت عناوين جديدة مثل: العقلانية، أو التنوير، أو التجديد... إلخ، وساعدت هذه النزعات على قراءة النّصوص الشرعيّة، وتفسيرها وفق العقل الإنسانيّ بقراءة جديدة.
وبناءً على هذا، يمكن التساؤل عن مدى إعتبار الفكر الإعتزالي فكراً نقديّاً، بالمعنى المتداول لدينا للنقد، أو أنّه، كغيره، يندرج، بمقامه، ضمن الخطابات الدينية، وهل يصلح أن يكون ذلك الفكر القديم أنموذجاً للإقتداء في العصر الحديث، بعد ظهور قيم جديدة لا قِبَلَ للفكر القديم بها، وهذا ما يفتح الباب أمام التساؤل عن قيمة الدراسات الحديثة والمعاصرة الممجّدة للفكر الإعتزالي، فهل مفهوم الحريّة في الفكر الإعتزالي ينسجم مع قيمة الحريّة، الّتي قدّمتها الحريّة الفكريّة، وإلى أيّ مدى يمكن تأصيل مثل هذه القيم الحديثة في الفكر الإسلامي القديم؟.
