تكابلت عليه ظروف الحياة، فهو المعيل الوحيد لأخواته البنات ووالدته بعد وفاة أبيه وتأزمت حياته عندما انسحبت منها (نواره) الحبيبة لتتزوج بآخر ميسور مادياً... فيقرر حينها التمرد على ظروفه متخذاً من (عبادي) والذي ترك الحارة وأصبح من الأثرياء قدوة له…
سنرى بين طيات القصة الصراع النفسي بداخل حسين ورغبته في التغيير... لنرى كيف تكون النهاية وكيف سيصل حسين لمبتغاه! وهل سيصل ويكون راضيا في النهاية؟!
إنها الرغبة الملحة في التغير دون الفهم الجقيقي لماهيته، الأستاذ حسين الراضي المدرس في إحدى المدارس الثانوية والذي اعتبر يوماً ما قدوه... ليس فقط لتلاميذه بل أيضاً لأهالي الحي، ثار على كل مظاهر الحياة البائسة التي يعيشها متحملاً مسؤولية أخواته البنات ووالدته بعد وفاة والده، ومما فاقم مشكلاته تحلي الحبيبة عنه وهو في أمس الحاجة إليها، تركته (نواره) مرغمة للزواج بابن عمها الميسور مادياً.
عندها قرر الأستاذ حسين أن يتغير... أن يرتدي ثوباً غير ثوبه... فتخلى عن مبادئه وقيمه... متبعاً قدوته الجديدة، صديقه القديم (عبادي) الذي ترك الحارة وأصبح من الأثرياء... والنتيجة أن أصبح الأستاذ حسين وراء القضبان.. يحكي قصة حياته لأحد نزلاء السجن... ويعيش معه القارئ قصة حياته من بدايتها لنهاية المأساة...
