يضم هذا الكتاب وقائع مربد الثاني عشر الذي انعقد بين 26/11/1996-1/12/1996 في ثلاث مدن هي بغداد والبصرة والنجف. وقد تضمن مهرجان المربد الثاني عشر اثنتي عشرة جلسة شعرية منها تسع جلسات في بغداد إحداها حفل الافتتاح في قاعة قصة المؤتمرات والأخرى خاصة في نصب الشهيد ومنها جلستان في بهو البلدية بالبصرة وواحدة في النجف.
ورافق الجلسات الشعرية حلقة دراسية موضوعها الشعر العربي والمستقبل عقدت في قاعة قرطبة بفندق المنصور ميليا خلال الأيام من 24/11-26/11/1996 وندوة نقاشية عن دور المجلات الثقافية وأخرى عن المثقفين وأساليب الترويض عقدت في بيت الحكمة.
قرأ في جلسات المربد الثاني عشر (148) شاعراً.. منهم إثنتا عشرة شاعرة يمثلون خمسة عشر قطراً عربياً وآسيوياً وأوربياً هي: السودان، والأردن، وسوريا، ولبنان، والبحرين، والجزائر، والإمارات، وقطر، وتونس، واليمن، وموريتانيا، وفلسطين، والمغرب، وتركيا، ورومانيا.
وقد بلغ الشعراء العراقيون الذين أنشدوا في المهرجان مائة شاعر وشاعرة يمثلون الأجيال الشعرية المختلفة والمناهج والاتجاهات الفنية المتعددة.. من الكرد والتركمان والسريان.. إضافة إلى شعراء العروبة.
