في هذا الكتاب دراسة علميّة حول مظاهر الغلو ومفاهيم التطرف والأصولية حيث الموضوع الغلو أهمية بالغة، في ذاته، وفي زمنه، وفيما يتعلق بمستقبل الدعوة الإسلامية.
فمن حيث الموضوع ذاته فهو يتعلق بعقيدة المسلمين، وتنقيتها من شوائب الغلو من جانب، ويتعلق بالدعوة الإسلامية، والدعاة من جانب آخر؛ ومن حيث زمن الموضوع، فإن البحث يكتب في الظروف الآتية: 1-برزو بعض أعمال الغلو، وآرائه من بعض المنتمين للتيارات الإسلامية، وهذه الأعمال والآراء لا بد من نقدها نصحاً للأمة، 2-غياب معنى الغلو في الشريعة عن أذهان معظم الناس، إتخاذ محاربة الغلو ذريعة لمحاربة الإسلام، مما يستلزم رفع الستار عن ميدان من أخطر ميادين الصراع بين الإسلام والكفر.
ومن حيث مستقبل الدعوة، فإنه لا بد من تصحيح مسار الدعوة الإسلامية، وبحث موضوع الغلو يمكن أن يساعد على ذلك بصفة أساسية في ثلاثة جوانب: 1-التأصيل، 2- التحصين، 3-الحماية.
وكانت خطة البحث وفق الملامح التالية: المقدمة، الفصل الأول وهو فصل تمهيدي يشتمل على تحديد مصطلحات البحث، ومعنى الغلو في اللغة، وفي الشرع؛ الفصل الثاني: وعنوانه جذور الغلو في الدين وطبيعته في حياة المسلمين المعاصرة، يبرز الفصل الثالث: مظاهر الغلو العقدية والتشريعية، الفصل الرابع: وقد خصصه لبيان مظاهر الغلو العملية ورسم بــ(مجالات الغلو العملية والسلوكية).
