"هرمت بهمس... هرمت مثل حائط منسي... أين عمرك؟ في الملاجئ هناك في السراديب... ذات يوم اقتادوك بعد أن تفحمت الأرض برفاتك أو تحت قدميك... كنت وحيداً تحمل جثتك ولا طريق في الآتون... أخذوك عنوة... سألوك... كنت لا تعلم شيئاً... هكذا أنت... دائماً لا تعلم شيئاً... احمل سلاحك حملته... اقفز... ترجل... تقدم.. تقدمت أخبروك بأن الطاعة عمياء... تقدمت لا تعلم شيئاً... وحين أمسكوك رهاناً لهزيمة... أية هزيمة إنك لا تعلم... حينها أصبحت هكذا. الرقم (20) في سجل الأسرى المنسيين... جندي ما... أسير الدفعة الأولى للحرب... جندي مجهول... اسمك عشرون... منذ متى... كيف حصل هذا؟ الآن بحوزتك جلد يغطي عظامك الناتئة، وعشر سنين... أما ذكرياتك فهي الأخرى ضاعت تحت دويّ الانهيار... انهيار الأبنية. لم يبق لديك أحد... سلالتك انقرضت... هكذا أخبروك في المكتوب الأول... المذكورون غادروا... أنت تعلم بطش الطائرات عندما تلقي عتادها سهواً فوق أكواخ الجنوب، عد ولا تعد.... لم يبق غير نتف من شعر الرأس وأرقام أخرى... لزمن مجهول... أرقام فقط".
محمد عيسى أبو رغيف يسرد ثرثرات إنسان قادته أقداره من حرب إلى حرب، الحرب الإيرانية، والحرب الخليجية، ليضحي في نهاية المطاف أحد مخلفاتهما. تعود إليه نفسه في بعض الأحيان فتهمس له بإنسانيته، بنبض قلبه، بآماله، لتعود الحرب بمأساتها ملقية عرض الحائط نحيب النفس لاغية وجوده وحياته. انفجارات طائرات ودماء، ونازك الأمل المتبدد على شطآن إنسان كان إنساناً وأضحى أسيراً لا يملك سوى رقم من الأرقام.
