ولد الكاتب المصري حسين عيد عام 1946م، بالقاهرة ـ حاصل على بكالوريوس العلوم التجارية (محاسبة) ـ له العديد من الكتب في الإبداع القصصي والرواية- له كتب متميزة في مجال الترجمة الأدبية ـ تخصص في النقد خلال العقدين الماضيين وله 13 كتابا نقديا، منها «غارسيا ماركيز وأفول الديكتاتورية» و«مفهوم السلطة والدين في تجربة فتحي غانم الإبداعية».. آخر ما نشر «سحر الإبداع: مع كتاب عرب وأجانب».

ما هي هذه "العين" التي تخترق الأشياء؟ وهل يمكننا أن ندرك سعادتها؟ إنها سعادة الملتذ. تتبنى رواية "عين النمس" تلك الجمالية. جمالية الأبصار الذي لا يقتصر على الخارج، لأن هناك أبصاراً يتجه نحو الداخل أيضاً. إذ يساهم في اكتشاف الذات الإنسانية.
هذه الرواية تطرح أسئلة عديدة لم تتوقف عند معنى واحد "أن ترى" وحسب! ان معنى: مراقبة. فضول. تلصص. محمّل عند (حسين عيد) بالمعنى الأعمق للعين المجازية.
إذا قلنا ان الرواية تسجل صورة "الغياب" لمعنى اللذة. وهل هناك من يملك الأصل؟ الأصل مفقود، لأن ثمة شيئاً غائباً على الدوام. وهكذا لم يتأسس المعنى هنا على منسوخ مطابق. بل إنه نسخ جديد للتواصل مع الحياة الإنسانية.
يمكننا أن نتساءل: هل يمكن أن تأتي اللذة هكذا صافية؟ ان بهجة الملتذ مهددة بالخوف، والفضيحة بالمرصاد دائماً. من الآخر يأتي "الإنجذاب" لتتحقق السعادة. ومن الآخر يأتي "النفور" والحقد وتتولد الكراهية المدمرة.
نحن إزاء نص مضاعف لا يقرأ بعين واحدة. ارتقى هذا النص بثقافاته المتنوعة. وعبّر عن حساسية فائقة. يقترب أثرها من النصوص الكبرى التي لا تغيب عن ذاكرة القارئ.
