في هذا الكتاب محاولة علمية جادّة لرصد حركة المذهب الشافعي في الديار الهندية عبر جمع تراجم أبرز مَن زار تلك الديار من العلماء المنتمين إلى المذهب أو أقام فيها، بدءاً من القرن الرابع الهجري حتى عصرنا الحالي. وبلغت التراجم المودَعة في هذا الكتاب نحواً من سبعين ترجمةً جمعها المؤلف من مصادر شتى منها المطبوع ومنها المخطوط، ومن أهمّ مصادرِه مسموعاتُه من أهل بلاده. وقد عرَضَ فيها سِيَرَ المترجمين عرضاً يتناول جوانب حياتهم العلمية والسلوكية والأسرية، مع ذكر مؤلفاتهم ببعض استيفاء، فجاءت تراجمَ جامعةً بقدر كبير. ومن مزايا الكتاب أنّ مؤلفه هو أحد أبناء الحواضر العلمية في بلاده، فحديثه هو حديث العارف المعاين، الأمر الذي جعل الكتاب يتوفّر على مزيدٍ من الدقة والحماسة العلمية.
