الفيزياء (من الإغريقية (المعرفة) الطبيعية"؛ وبالعربية علم الطبيعة؛ وتسمى أحياناً (الفيزيقا)، وهي العلم الذي يدرس كل ما يتعلق بالمادة وحركتها والطاقة، وتحاول أن تفهم الظواهر الطبيعية والقوى المؤثرة في سيرها، وصياغة المعرفة في قوانين لا تفسر العمليات السالفة فقط بل التنبؤ بمسيرة العمليات الطبيعية بنماذج تقترب رويداً رويداً من الواقع.
تهتم الفيزياء في نفس الوقت بدقة القياس وإبتكار طرق جديدة للقياس تزيد من قدتها فهذا هو أساس التوصل إلى التفسير السليم للظواهر الطبيعية، وتقدم الفيزياء ما توصلت إليه من طرق القياس للإستخدام في جميع العلوم الطبيعية والحيوية الأخرى كالكيمياء والطب والهندسة والأحياء وغيرها.
فالتقدم الحضاري والمدني يرجع إلى التقدم الباهر لعلم الفيزياء، فجميع الأجهزة التي تملأ حياتنا أساسها الفيزياء، مثل الرادار واللاسلكي والراديو والتلفزيون والتلفزيون الملون، والهاتف، والحاسوب وأجهزة التشخيص في الطب مثل أشعة إكس والتصوير بالرنين المغناطيسي والعلاج بالأشعة، والنظارات، والتلسكوبات ومسبارات المريخ والفضاء، وأفران الميكروويف، والكهرباء والترانزيستور والميكروفون، وغيرها.
بالإضافة إلى مفاهيم أخرى كالفضاء والزمن، ويتعامل مع خصائص كونية محسوسة يمكن قياسها مثل القوة والطاقة والكتلة والشحنة، وتعتمد الفيزياء المنهج التجريبي، أي أنها تحاول تفسير الظواهر الطبيعية والقوانين التي تحكم الكون عن طريق نظريات قابلة للإختبار.
يتناول هذا الكتاب مبادئ الفيزياء العامة حيث يستفيد منه الطلبة في مجال الفيزياء، وقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى عدة فصول، تناولت مواضيع عدة نذكر منها: الفيزياء الحديثة، الميكانيكا، الحركة، الشغل والطاقة، مصادر الطاقة، الخصائص الفيزيائية للمادة، العوامل المؤثرة في الطاقة الإشعاعية الممتصة، الضغوط الجوي، حركة الموائع، النظرية الكمومية حسب التصور الموجي، علماء ميكانيكا الكم.
