"يونس بحري" الذي دوّن مذكراته العجيبة في هذا الكتاب هو أحد الإعلاميين العراقيين والعرب المعدودين الذين تمكنوا من تجاوز حدود أوطانهم وأقطارهم ليسجلوا نجاحات باهرة وليخلدوا أسماء بلدانهم في سجل التاريخ.
ولد يونس بحري في العراق، وتلقى تعليمه الابتدائي في مدارس الموصل، وامتهن الصحافة في وقت مبكر ودخل المعترك السياسي معلقاً وصحفياً وإذاعياً في بداية الثلاثينات من القرن العشرين. واقترن اسمه بهتلر فعمل في إذاعة برلين حيث ابتدأ البث بعبارته الشهيرة "حي العرب.. هنا برلين".
في هذا الكتاب يسجل يونس بحري مذكراته ذات الطعم الخاص والتي هي أكثر من مذكرات، إذ يروي قصة مع سجن أبي غريب برفقة رجال العهد الملكي بعد مجزرة قصر الرحال عام 1958 والإطاحة بالعهد المالكي. حيث إذ اعتقل وزج به في السجن مع كبار القادة والوزراء من أمثال أحمد مختار آخر رئيس وزراء في العهد المالكي وبرهان الدين باش أعيان، وسعيد قزاز وزير الداخلية، وعلي حيدر الركابي والدكتور فاضل الجمالي وتوفيق السويدي وغيرهم من رجالات العهد الملكي.
