عاشت أناييس نن حياتها كما تكتب. وفي باريس كما في الولايات المتحدة كان لها حضور طاغ في الكتابة والحب والأفكار والمذكرات الغنية بالتجارب والكتابة الروائية وهذه أهم رواياتها المفتوحة على أشكال الحب والحياة. يتحدث الأستاذ محمد صويلح عن رواية «دلتا فينوس»،حيث يرى أن أناييس نين في روايتها تقتحم عالماً سرّياً وتضيئه من الداخل، باستسلام الراوية للنزوات والأهواء والرغبات. وتكشف عن شخصيات تتحكم بحياتها الشهوانية، وتحكي عن اقتناص لحظات اللذة أينما كانت، في الأسرّة وتحت الجسور، في الشوارع المظلمة وفي القصور. صحيح أنّ نين كتبت هذه القصص تحت ضغط الحاجة إلى المال، لكنّها دشّنت نوعاً أدبياً نسوياً، ستقتحمه أخريات بعد عقود بوصفه ملاذاً لحرية كانت مفتقدة ومحرّمة، وعفّة فرضتها القيم الاجتماعية الصارمة. لعل الكتابات الأنثوية العربية اليوم، في تجرُّئها على المحظور، تدين بالكثير إلى تلك الأديبة الجريئة التي سبقت عصرها، كاشفة عن احتدامات الجسد المشتعل وانفعالاته من دون وجل. هناك مسافة نصف قرن بين مكاشفات أناييس نين والتمارين الإيروتيكية العربية التي تُحاكم بقسوة، تحت بند خدش الحياء العام. لعلها فرصة للمقارنة؟"
