"عبد المعين الملوحي" الكاتب والشاعر والسياسي اليساري الانتماء، الذي وقف في مواجهة الغرب والغربيين. وفي سياق هذه المواجهة يأتي سعيه لنشر ثقافة الشرق وآدابه الحية بين العرب. وللملوحي في مضمار التراث باع طويل. وأكثر إنجازاته مدعاة للتقدير هي مجلداته عن أخبار اللصوص واشعارهم والمواقف الإنسانية في الشعر العربي والشعراء الذين رثوا أنفسهم قبل الموت ومراثي الآباء للأبناء، و"شاهر نصر" كاتب سيرة جيد وتلميذ نجيب لعبد المعين الملوحي، أراد إنصافه بكتاب في سيرته وأعماله. وقد أدار معه حوارات في شؤون شتى من الثقافة والحياة والنضال الوطني والقومي والأممي أعاد فيها الملوحي أراءه في هذه الشؤون وقد اختلف معه في نقاط وسجل كل منهما وجهة نظره، فكان هذا الكتاب الذي يدوّن فيه سيرة "الملوحي" الكاتب الكبير والمفكر والمناضل والمثابر، الذي تناسخ فكره في حياته وحياته في فكره خالصاً من ازدواج المثقف ولعبة: اعمل بقولي وإن قصرت في عملي "لأن الفكر لا يصل إلا ومعه صاحبه".
