تؤلف الدراسات الأدبية المقارنة جانباً مهماً في الأدب العربي، في تصدّيها الواضح للكشف عن أثر التراث العربي الإسلامي في تراث غيره من آداب الأمم والبلدان، وذلك عن طريق البحوث والدراسات، وسواء أكان ذلك التأثير مباشراً أم غير مباشر.
ولقد نال كتاب (ألف ليلة وليلة) مكانة مهمة وحصة كبيرة من الدراسات المقارنة، لتأثيره الجليّ في الأدب العالمي.
وفي إطار الدراسات يبرز لون أخر من ألوان النثر الفني العربي، وهو فن (المقامة) الذي ابتدعه بديع الزمان الهمذاني (ت 398ه)، وطوّره الحريري (ت 516ه)، وخطى بعدهما خطوات بارزة في البلاد العربية، حتى انتقاله إلى البلدان الإخرى.
إن قلة الإهتمام بدراسة تأثير (المقامة) في الآداب العالمية هو الذي دفع المؤلف إلى الولوج في أغواره ودقائقه حيث اعتمد المؤلف على كتب خرج بها اصحابها من تلك الرتابة إلى المنهج العلمي، وأهمها (فن المقامات بين المشرق والمغرب) للدكتور يوسف نور عوض.
يضم الكتاب أربعة فصول يسبقها تمهيد.
أما الفصل الأول ، فبحث في: المقامة في الأدب الفارسي، وكسر الفصل الثاني على: المقامة في أدب شبه الهنديّة، في حين احتجن الفصل الثالث: المقامة في الأدب الأسباني، وكان عنوان الفصل الرابع: المقامة في بعض دول أوروبا.
