يهتم الباحثون في علم النفس والعلوم التربوية، بالطرائق المختلفة لقراءة النصوص وفهمها واستيعابها، وفي مختلف العمليات الذهنية التي يوظفها الإنسان أثناء القراءة. كما يعني علم النفس الاجتماعي، وخاصة ما تعلق منه بالبحث في الاتصال الجماهيري، بدور النصوص وتأثيرها في التواصل، وكذلك تأثيرها في تشكيل الرأي العام وتوجيه السلوك الجماهيري.
ويهتم علم الاجتماع بدراسة النصوص وتحليلها في إطار التفاعل الاجتماعي، واختلاف الأشكال النصية باختلاف المقامات والمواقف الاجتماعية. وأما الطب النفسي، فهو يلجأ إلى تحليل أبنية النصوص ومضامينها لما لذلك من دور في تشخيص الاضطرابات والأمراض النفسية.
ويأتي اهتمام العلوم اللغوية بالنص إثر اقتناع اللغويين بضرورة تجاوز الدراسة اللسانية للجملة، الموضوع المفضل لدة البنيويين، وبضرورة إخراج الدراسة من الإطار الشكلاني الذي لطالما انحصرت فيه. يرى علماء اللغة المحدثون أن النص يمثل الوحدة الطبيعية للتفاعل اللغوي بين المتكلمين، فالتواصل أو التفاعل بين المتكلمين لا يتم بجمل وعبارات معزولة، وإنما يحصل عن طريق إنجازات كلامية أوسع ممثلة في الخطاب أو النص اللذين يمثلان الوحدة الأساسية للبليغ والتبادل. وعليه إذا أردنا دراسة السلوك اللغوي لدى الإنسان للكسف عن سننه وقوانينه، فإنه يتعين علينا أن نتجاوز إطار الجملة ونهتم بالوحدة الطبيعية لممارسة اللغة ألا وهي النص.
بناء على ذلك يسعى هذا المنهج اللساني إلى دراسة هذه البنية للوقوف على عناصره وعلى شتى مظاهر الاتساق والانسجام فيها. بعبارة أخرى يصف علم النص النظام الداخلي لمختلف أنواع النصوص وطرائق بنائها، ولكنه يهدف أيضاً، إضافة إلى الكشف عن القوانين والمعايير التي يستقيم بها النص، إلى تحقيق غرض، أشمل يتمثل في تحديد البنيات المجردة لمختلف أنواع النصوص.
يتمثل أحد أهم أهداف هذا البحث في أنه يحاول أن يقدم هذا التوجه اللساني الحديث للقارئ العربي في شكل مبسط، مع بيان بعض مجالات تطبيقه، وكذلك كيفية الإفادة منه في بعض الميادين كتعليم اللغة ولدراسة الأدب وتدريسه.
