جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

في هذه الدروس التي ضمّها هذا الكتاب، يغطي هيجل الأولوية فيها لوجهتين هي من الأهمية بمكان. الأولى تتعلق بأهمية تاريخ الفلسفة ومفهومه وغايته ويقينه، وهذا استدعى وجود نتائج خاصة بطريقة تناوله لتاريخ الفلسفة عرض لها في دراسته هذه. شدد هيجل في بعض من دروسه هذه، بوجه خاص على صلة تاريخ الفلسفة بالعلم الفلسفي. وهو يقول بأن مادة تاريخ الفلسفة ليست وقائع وحوادث خارجية، وإنما هي تطور مضمون الفلسفة ذاته مثلما ظهر في ميدان التاريخ. ولهذا فهو يوضح هنا بأن تاريخ الفلسفة متوافق مع علم الفلسفة وحتى أنه يختلط به. أما وجهته الثانية التي تناولها فهي تتعلق بمسألة بداية هذا التاريخ. فهي من جهة متصلة اتصالاً وثيقاً بالتاريخ السياسي، بالفن والدين، وهذه بدورها تقدم للفلسفة مادة من أكثر المواد تنوعاً إلا أن الفلسفة تمتاز، من جهة ثانية، عن هذه الميادين المقرّبة منها ولا يجوز تجاهل هذه الفوارق. وهذا نجم عنه إمكانية استخلاص تاريخ الفلسفة وما يجب الابتداء به في هذا التاريخ. فالمادة العامة للفلسفة تصادف أولاً في صورة دينية، أسطورية، وتصادف بعد ذلك فقط في الصورة الفلسفية. وهذا الفارق هو أيضاً ما حاول التدليل عليه في محاضراته، ذاكراً مصادره ومراجعه التي رجع إليها في دراسته هذه. وقد استهل المترجم الفرنسي الكتاب بفصول تضمّنت كل من: شرح الإشارات، تقديم لمحاضرات هيدليرج، تقديم لمحاضرات برلين، مفهوم تاريخ الفلسفة ويقينه، مفهوم الفلسفة، ليقدم من ثم دروس هيغل المشار إلى مضمونها آنفاً والتي ألقاها في الأعوام من: 1823 إلى 1827 و1828.
