وهذا ما تعلَّمناه منذ الثورة الفرنسية في كتب التاريخ، بأن لا علاقة للدين والإيمان بالحياة العامّة او الخاصة عند الفرنسيّين، ولا أخفي أني تأثّرتُ بالفيلسوف جان جاك روسّو وقبله بالكاتب فولتير وغيرهما.
ولا تنسى أن الكنيسة في فرنسا كانت ضد شعبها مع الطبقات البرجوازية، وكانت تسخِّر الناس ولا تهتمّ بهم وتنادي بالإيمان وتتغنّى بالأخلاق والقيم، إلى أن حدث الإنفجار الكبير، فقضى على السلطة الكنسيّة والسلطة المدنيّة، وزرع في نفوس الفرنسيّين فكرة العلمنة Le Laïcisme التي تجعل الإنسان يتعاطى مع أخيه الإنسان بغير الأمور الدينيّة أو الإيمانيّة".
