يعد هذا الكتاب إسهاما له وزنه في مجال الدراسات المتعلقة بالتراث العربي، وقد أقدم مؤلفه على معالجة جانب له أهميته الكبرى، وهو دراسة المنهج العلمي عند العرب. فإذا كانت دراسة المناهج-أصولها وقواعدها وتطبيقاتها. وقد أخذت في الظهور في مطلع العصر الحديث منذ أن نفض فلاسفة عصر النهضة عنهم غبار الفكر المدرسي، وأصبحت هذه الدراسة الهامة من قبيل الدراسات المتقدمة في مجال العلوم، إلا أن هذا المؤلف يحيط اللثام عن المنهج العلمي عند العرب، ويكشف عن حقيقة هامة قد غفل عنها العرب إلى حين، وهي أن أصحاب هذا التراث قد التزموا أصول المنهج العلمي، وتمسكوا بقواعده دون أن يفردوا له دراسة خاصة في غالب الأحايين، وهذه هي النتيجة التي أتاح لنا هذا الكتاب فرصة الكشف عنها من خلال فصوله الجادة الممتعة.
وعلى هذا فإن هذا البحث يمكن أن يبرهن في صدق واصالة على أن العرب لم يكونوا فقط مجرد نقلة للعلم اليوناني القديم بل هم أسهموا في تقدمه في تقدمه وأضافوا إليه إضافات جديدة مبتكرة ذات أهمية كبرى. والأهم من ذلك أنهم لم يبرعوا في هذا المجال نتيجة للصدفة العفوية، بل استناداً إلى قواعد ثابتة وتنظيم عقلي منهجي هو محك النظر في رسوخ العلم وأحالته لدى أصحابه. وقد اشتمل الكتاب على سبعة فصول وخاتمة. يتناول المؤلف في الفصل الأول منه بالدراسة المسائل العامة للمنهج وفي الفصل الثاني تحدث عن تصنيف العلوم عند العرب لتناول في الفصل الثالث بالدراسة منهج البحث في علم الطبيعة ودار الفصل الخامس حول منهج البحث في الكيمياء مكرساً الفصل الخامس الذي هو أطول فصول البحث للحديث عن منهج البحث في علم الطب.
