ولم يكن في المغرب شيء يُعطيه ذلك العصر، ولكنه أخذ من المشرق كل ما عرفه... فاجتمع محصول العلوم الإنسانية كلها في هذه المنطقة الوسطى من الكرة الأرضية، فلم يبقَ علم عرفه الإنسان قبل ذلك إلاّ وهو معلوم بين أبنائها، وتجمعت خلاصة الثقافة الصينية والهندية والمصرية واليونانية والرومانية في ظل دولة واحد، وقد أصبح من الممكن أن تُسمّى خلاصة حضارات الإنسان بعد أن كانت حضارات متفرقة لهذه الأمة أو تلك، تنعزل تارة وتتصل أخرى من بعيد، وذلك بفضل الفتوحات الإسلامية التي كوّنت إتصال المسلمين بغيرهم من الأمم الداخلة في الإسلام بوتقة واحدة انصهرت فكونت ثقافة عالمية، بسبب ما كان للمسلمين من همة عالية في طلب المعارف لا عن طريق الترجمة فحسب، بل أيضاً عن طريق المشافهة وإنتقال الشعوب المفتوحة إلى الإسلام والعربية بكل كنوزها ومعارفها، فاعتناق شعوب هذه القارة طواعية جعلهم يقبلون على تعلم اللغة العربية والشريعة الإسلامية فنبغ منهم العلماء والأدباء.
