تقول الحكاية أنه في فجر أحد الأيام الملائمة للصيد، جلس صياد ينتظر قدوم رف الطيور ليمارس هوايته. ولكن أحدهم كان له رأي آخر في ما يجب أن يصطاد في ذلك اليوم.
ولأن الواقع دائماً هو أقوى من الأحلام، يقع ما لم يكن بالحسبان، فعندما يصبح الصياد هو الفريسة، وتُطلق الرصاصات على جسد إنسان لا طائر نكون أمام جريمة ترتكب وليس هواية تمارس. وحين تجتمع الخلافات حول ملكية عقارية، ترتفع فرضية ارتكاب جريمة قتل. غير أنه عندما يقترن كل ما سبق مع طلاق زوجة شابة فالأمر حتماً سيأخذ منحى آخر.
في رواية بزوغ الفجر، ليس فجر نهار جديد ما يبزغ، وإنما فجر العدالة التي لا تنام عيون رجالها، وفجر أيسلندا، ذلك البلد الذي يتمتع فيه المهاجر بحقوق تماماً كالمواطن في أرض الأحلام الأوروبية تجري أحداث رواية بزوغ الفجر، حيث يقودنا فكتور إنغولفسون إلى المشاعر الجياشة وخيبات الأمل، ويعرّفنا على القلوب المكسورة والتضحيات المبذولة، قبل أن تذوي آخر صفحات الرواية مسدلة الستار عما لا نريد له نهاية.
