في "مذكراتي"، يتابع اللواء الركن "ياسين سويد" سرد حكايته الشخصية، المرتكزة على ثنائية العمل في المؤسسة العسكرية، والدراسة في الجامعة اللبنانية، التي تخرّج منها حاملاً أعلى الشهادات، إجازة الحقوق، ودكتوراه التاريخ، وغيرها مما كتب من المقالات، وما ألف من الكتب والموسوعات وهو يحلم بثقافة أشمل وأوسع، ثقافة عالمية تسع الدنيا وتطال أبعد زواياها، ولعل أجمل تعبير ما ساقه لنا بقوله "إن صفة المعرفة والثقافة، لأي امرىءٍ في الكون، أمر صعب البلوغ إن لم يكن مستحيل المنال، ويصح القول دائماً، لأي شخص يدعيهما: "عرفت شيئاً وغابت عنك أشياء"."
وهذا إن دل على شيء فإنما يدل على أخلاقيات فذّة تميز الرجالات الكبار من قادة هذا الوطن "أنا كعسكري، لم أبلغ ما كنت أطمح إليه يوم تقدمت لامتحانات المدرسة الحربية... يومذاك، كنت أتصور نفسي، على متن دبابة، أتقدم الصفوف، وخلفي رتل من الدبابات، على هضاب حيفا ويافا ودير ياسين، أصرخ بصوتي الجهوري (منذ الصغر): إلى الأمام... لبيك يا فلسطين...".
قسّم المؤلف مذكراته هذه إلى ثلاثة أقسام تعبّر عن ثلاث مراحل: القسم الأول: صدى السنين: 1931 - 1995، القسم الثاني: مذكراتي: 1995 - 2006، القسم الثالث: ما بعد الخامسة والسبعين: 2006 - 2011.
