وهناك وجد كارلوس بابه. لم يكن عليه الرقم، ولكنه تعرف عليه في الحال. فتلك هي الخدوش التي أحدثها بالملعقة. وهذه هي البقع، بقع الخشب القديمة، خرائط البلدان السرية التي كان يسافر إليها على امتداد كل يوم من أيام حبسه.
الباب ينتصب الآن في العراء، في أعلى رابية حيث يمنع إغلاقه".
