والدكتورة زاهية الدجاني في هذا الكتاب تتناول ومن خلال الدراسة قصة يوسف عليه السلام، كما جاءت في القرآن الكريم، والتي تدور في أساسها حول محور العائلة، فتبحث الدكتورة الدجاني في تلك العلاقات كنموذج للعلاقات الإنسانية الأوسع، وتبين بهذا الإطار، ما يكتنف هذ العلاقات من حسد وغيرة وطمع، ومن اجتراء على مشاعر القربى ومبادئ السلوك السليم.
يتشكل هذا الموضوع وغيره مما ورد في هذه السورة مادة للبحث في هذه الدراسة عن قصة يوسف القرآنية، التي تسبقها بدراسة عن القصة نفسها الواردة بالتوراة. وقد جاءت هذه الدراسة ضمن أحد عشر فصلاً، إضافة إلى المقدمة والخاتمة، تغطي تسعة فصول، إنها قصة يوسف القرآنية، أما الفصلان الأخيران فيغطيان القصة التوراتية من حيث التعريف، ومن حيث إظهار مواطن الشبه والاختلاف بين تلك القصة وبين القصة القرآنية.
