الملائكة هم مخلوقات غيبية عن البشر، ذات أجسام نورانية لطيفة، قادرون على التشكل بالأشكال الجسمانية المختلفة المرئية، ذوو قدرات خارقة، لا حصر لهم، مقربون إلى الله، طائعون لا يعصون الله ما أمرهم، ويفعلون ما يؤمون، لا يتناكدون، ولا يتناسلون، ولا يأكلون ولا يشربون، إنما هم عباد مكرّمون، يحملون رسالات ربهم في العالمين ويؤدون وظائفهم في الأكوان بحسب مجرى الاقدار، على مراد الله العزيز الجبار، هذا وقد ورد ذكر الملائكة في جميع الكتب السماوية التي أنزلها الله عز وجل، ويتفق أساتذة العلوم الدينية في جامعات أوروبا وأميركا، مع ما جاء في القرآن الكريم من أن الله سبحانه وتعالى يتخذ من الملائكة رسلاً لتبليغ أو تنفيذ رغباته وأوامره المتعلقة بالمجتمع البشري.
والنصوص القرآنية التي ورد فيه ذكر الملائكة واضحة اشد الوضوح ولا تقبل التأويل، وهي تعمق في الإنسان الأيمان بالله عز وجل، وتدفعه بالتالي: إلى التمسك بأهداف الفضيلة ولما كان الإيمان بالملائكة ركن من أركان الدين الإسلامي عني المؤلف "أحمد حسن الشيخ" بوضع هذه الدراسة التي يتحدث فيها عن الملائكة حقيقتهم، وجودهم، صفاتهم، وذلك من خلال تقسيمه مادة كتابه إلى ستة فصول وملحقين، تناول في الفصل الأول التعريف بالملائكة وإثبات وجودهم، وفي الثاني خلق الملائكة وصفاتهم، وفي الثالث مراتب الملائكة أعمالهم واسمائهم، وفي الرابع الملاك جبريل، وفي الخامس الملائكة وبني آدم، وفي السادس المفاضلة بيت الملائكة والبشر، وفي الملحق الأول حاول المؤلف الإجابة عن السؤال التالي: هل كان إبليس من الملائكة، أما الملحق الثاني فقد بثت فيه نظرة الدين المسيحي إلى الملائكة.
