يهتم هذا المؤلف بإستخدام الرياضيات المالية في المعاملات المالية والإستثمارية، حيث تتمثل المعاملات المالية في عمليات البنوك والمفاضلة بينها من حيث الإبداعات بالبنوك، أو الإقتراض منها وطرق سداد القروض، الأوراق المالية من سندات وكمبيالات وكذلك عمليات البيع أو الشراء الآجل (بآجل) ومقارنته بالبيع أو الشراء النقدي، وتتمثل المعاملات الإستثمارية في جدوى إنشاء المشروعات وطرق الحصول على التمويل اللازم وكيفية سداد هذه الإلتزامات.
ويعتبر رأس المال أحد عناصر الإنتاج الرئيسية بجانب العمل والأرض والتنظيم (الإدارة)، ولكل عنصر عائد أو مقابل أو ثمن لإستخدامه والإنتفاع به، وتعتبر الفائدة هي عائد رأس المال ولذا تهتم الرياضيات المالية بعنصر رأس المال وعائدة (الفائدة) على إعتبار أن كل المشروعات الإقتصادية والخدمية سواء كانت عامة أو خاصة، سواء كانت فردية أو مشتركة تعمل على توفير رأس المال عن طريق الإقتراض من الأفراد أو جهات متخصصة في مجال التمويل والإستثمار مثل البنوك وشركات التأمين أو عن طريق إصدار الأسهم والسندات وبيعها من سوق الأوراق المالية.
وفي المعاملات المالية والإستثمارية يكون لوحدة الزمن ثمنها، فتحسب للمستثمر أو المودع أو المقترض أو البائع بأجل إضافة أو عائد تسمى بالفائدة التي تحدد بمعدل معين وفقاً لمدة الإيداع أو الإستثمار أو الإقتراض أو المديونية، كذلك يحصل المقترض على خصم في حالة سداد الدين قبل موعد إستحقاقه.
