ذي الرمة غيلان بن عقبة الحضري أحد أشهر الشعراء الغزليين من العهد الأموي، اشتهر بشعره الغزلي وتشبيبه بمية المنقرية وعاش دهراً لا يكف عن هواه وتشييد بها إلى أن أدركته المنية في وسط الصحراء فدفن فيها.
وشعر ذو الرمة كان مستحسناً عند البدو والأعراب، وعالج في شعره مواضيع العزل والوصف والتشبيه، حتى اعتبره معظم شعراء عصره وعلماؤه أحسن أهل الإسلام تشبيهاً بعد أن كان امرؤ القيس أحسن أهل الجاهلية تشبيهاً، ومن شهادات جرير فيه أنه كان عند بعض الخلفاء فسئل عن ذي الرمة فقال: أخذ من طريف الشعر وحسنه ما لم يسبقه إليه أحد غيره، وقيل فيه أيضاً ختم الشعر بذي الرمة، وقال الأصمعي: كان ذو الرمة أشعر الناس إذا شبه ولم يكن بالمفلق.
ورغم كل تلك الشهادات التي حقي بهما ذي الرمة لم ينقل الأفق في شهرة التاريخية لانه كان بعيداً عن بلوط الخلفاء ومديحهم، وكان فقيراً في حياته، وحديثاً في سنه، ولم يكن وصولياً ذا نفاق.
وترك ذو الرمة خلفه مجموعة شعرية رائعة تعد كنزاً من كنوز أدبنا العربي الأصيل، تتناقلها الأجيال وتحفى بها.
