كما يتناول الكتاب أسس النظام الفيدرالي الذي اختارته الولايات لنفسها، ويستعرض خصائص منظمات المجتمع المدني، وجماعات الضغط (اللوبيات)، وتنظيم الأحزاب الأمريكية، وماهية الإختلافات القائمة بين الحزبين الجمهوري والديمقراطي، ويبين - بالتفصيل - القواعد المتبعة في إنتخاب الرئيس وأعضاء مجلسي النواب والشيوخ، ويعرض خصائص وسائل الإعلام الأمريكية ودورها في الحياة العامة، ويوضح أن المعضلة السياسية الأساسية في هذا القطاع، تكمن في ترَكُّز ملكيته في شركات عملاقة، تتحكم فيها يحصل عليه الرأي العام الأمريكي من معلومات.
ويرتكز الكتاب - أيضاً - على توزيع السلطة بين والكونجرس، وعلى أسس النظام القضائي، ويتطرق إلى جذور الثقافة السياسية السائدة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
